11 REASONS WHY WE NEED TO PLANT MORE TREES

11 REASONS WHY WE NEED TO PLANT MORE TREES

If you are Searching for one reason why we need to plant more trees? Then you are exactly at the right place, We at One Step Towards Peace will provide you the 11 reasons why we need to plant more and more green trees now.

Trees are terms as an important and vital gift from our mother nature. As the plants give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil, Prevent Soil Erosion, Produce food and give life to the world’s wildlife. They also provide us with materials for tools, shelter, and fuel.

1. THEY PRODUCE OXYGEN

Some legends said that if trees produced free WiFi or free internet, we would be planting and protecting them in our cities like crazy. What they do produce is only Oxygen, an element that is fundamental and essential to our existence on this planet!

In a single season, 1 mature green tree can produce enough Oxygen to allow more than 10 of us to breathe. This is most important of all in India because we have a highly-dense population and polluted areas like cities, where the average level of Oxygen is expected to be at least 6% lower.

2. CARBON AND CARBON DIOXIDE, STORING IT AND SOAKING IT UP

Trees play a vital role as a carbon sink. They store carbon and carbon dioxide as part of the carbon cycle and this process helps directly in mitigation and controlling the effects of climate change.

In a year, an individual mature tree can absorb up to 21.7 Kg of carbon dioxide. Luckily we have a pre-grown forest of nature and because of their size & density forest, most of our scientists believe that globally our forests absorb 40% of manmade carbon dioxide emissions before it reaches our outer atmosphere (where it can trap more heat).
.

3. THEY CLEAN OUR AIR

Carbon Dioxide is not only an element that trees absorb from the air, but they also soak up a range of other dirt, dust pollutants, and toxins that are emitted by our everyday activities and moving vehicles. This is more important than ever these days, as air pollution ( particularly in city areas) means the air we breathe is reaching (or exceeding) toxic levels.

While all trees do the same, so we require little management or trees that have long lives.

4. PROTECTING US FROM FLOODING AND WATER LOGGING

A single mature, green tree can absorb up to 450 liters of water through its roots every day, as well as capturing rainwater on the surface of its leaves. Their roots also reduce or restrict soil erosion in the ground and slow down the filtration of water into our cities drainage networks.

This is extremely important in cities where a large proportion of the surface of the ground is made up of impermeable materials, like tar, tarmac, and concrete. When we get a sudden heavy rainfall, this can quickly cause waterlogging and flooding if the water has nowhere to go.

5. THEY’RE KEEPING THINGS COOL

Not only absorbing water, but trees also release it as water vapour through the process of evapotranspiration from their leaves, which produces a cooling effect in the surrounding areas.
They also provide shade for the surrounding ground and buildings, resulting in further cooling and less energy usage. Shockingly! The overall average cooling effect of a single, mature green tree is equivalent to 10 air conditioning units running for 20 hours in a day. This cooling helps in fighting against the city or urban heat island effect which can cause temperatures in a city to be 7 or more degrees higher on average.

6. ACT AS CARETAKER FOR WILDLIFE

Trees also provide a source of food, shelter, and habitat to the other species in our urban and city environments – Bats, birds, badgers, insects, other plants, fungi and mosses, this list is almost endless!

7. TREES ARE GOOD FOR OUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Being around nature, specifically, trees have been shown to reduce the levels of stress and anxiety from our brains.
Most of the people are also more likely to leave their homes or houses, go outside and exercise if there are beautiful, welcoming trees and green spaces.

8. OUR URBAN TREES ARE GETTING OLD AND CUTTING DOWN

Most of the trees we see in our cities today as because of our ancestors., We must thank our revolutionary ancestors who planted trees as long as 100 years ago for us to enjoy today.
But unfortunately, some of the trees are now reaching or now coming to the end of their life cycles and getting older day by day.

The problem we are facing now is that it takes a very long time for a tree to reach maturity( where it is bringing its maximum level of benefits to us). So if we don’t increase the levels of tree planting soon, Our future generation will be born with diseases or we may face some kind of natural disaster and apocalypse.

9. RAPID DEVELOPMENT AND URBANIZATION

According to the survey 2018, Thirty-Four percent 34% of India is now living in the urbanized city and there are no signs of this slowing down. This could be 80% of urban populations by the year 2050.

Repaid changes in development are reducing the quality of air, water, and forest too. That’s the reason why we need to plant more and more green trees now.

10. It’s OUR CITY

As a responsible citizen of our society, it is our duty to make our city meet and clean. Beautiful and clean city require more and more trees

What would our cities be like if we weren’t able to enjoy seeing lust greenery or trees as we walk down the street? Can you able to imagine? Would you prefer to see more grey concrete than green trees?

11. BECAUSE WE LOVE THEM

Since humans evolved on Earth, Trees have been part of the natural landscape. We have a deep connection and deep desire to be around them, even if you aren’t aware of it.

After reading all these 11 reasons, you will never ask yourself why we need to plant more and more green trees now.
