Role of United Nations curbing Environmental Problems

Environmental protection has become significant for the United Nations. More than 200 international environmental conventions now exist and bodies such as the :- UN Environment programme, the global environmental facility are playing significant roles in environmental protection.

  • The UN is tackling global problems like- ozone layer depletion, loss of forests and species, and air and water pollution.
  • Unless these problems are considered, markets and economies will not be sustainable in the long term.
  • Because environmental losses are depleted over the natural resources on which growth and human survival depend.
  • UNEPs mission is “for providing leadership and encouraging partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples for improving their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.”
